A blank surface with the shape already in it

Light grey is the colour of the PLA, nothing more. It is pale enough for bright colours to cover without a dark base showing through, and the smooth surface takes acrylic paint cleanly. The shape is already there: the rod-look stock that bends into an oval loop at the back, the ribbed grip, the slab-sided receiver and the straight box magazine. Only the colour is missing.

The Rust Thompson, straight off the print bed

80cm long, 20cm tall, 520g: the same piece as our painted Thompson, at the scale of the game. Rust's close-quarters submachine gun, the one everyone calls the Tommy. It is all PLA and the detail is printed into the part, with no tape or screws added. It arrives in a few parts that plug together, no glue and no fiddling. Is it painted? No, this is the unpainted DIY version: a bare PLA Thompson for you to put your own paintjob on.

What colour is it out of the box? Light grey, the natural colour of the PLA we print it in. It is not white, so if you are after a bright white finish, plan a coat of white paint first.

What paint should I use? Acrylic paints work best on the PLA surface. Recreate any in-game skin or design your own.
