The Duke Nukem Shrinker as a 3D print

Weapon number seven, also known as the Shrink Ray, and the one gun in Duke Nukem 3D that does no damage at all: it shrinks whatever it hits, and Duke's boot does the rest. The thing runs on green crystals, glows because of them, and lights up when it fires. These files let you print the N64 version yourself.

What you need to print it

Nothing exotic. The numbers sit in the spec table further down. A few parts want supports, but nothing beyond what your slicer switches on by default. The parts plug together, and where a joint needs help, a drop of superglue is enough.

What makers ask about the Shrinker files

Will it fit my printer? The parts are sized for a 256 × 256 × 256 mm build volume. At that size or larger the whole set fits.

Do I need supports? On a few parts, yes, and your slicer's defaults handle them.

Does it come painted? No. What you print are the raw parts. The green glow is paint work, and that part is yours.

Does it actually shrink anything? No. What you print is a solid model for a shelf: nothing lights up, nothing moves, and nothing gets smaller.

Print questions

Which slicer should I use?

Cura, Bambu Studio, PrusaSlicer — any modern slicer works. Load the STLs, punch in the values from the spec table above, and you're ready to slice.

Do I need to use supports?

Yes, for some of the parts. Nothing tricky: turn supports on in your slicer and its default settings will do the job.

What filament works best?

PLA. It prints easily, gives a clean paintable finish, and it's what we use for our own props. Avoid ABS unless you really know your printer and have an enclosure.

Can I sell my prints?

No. The files are for personal use only. We don't sell commercial licences, so printing to sell or for commissions isn't covered.
